My Day In LA

Midweek Getaway: Santa Barbara

September 17, 2016

Last week Jake surprised me with a mid week getaway to Santa Barbara. Since moving to the San Gabriel Valley in January we haven’t gone up the coast as much as we used to. I was so excited that he took a few days off of work to make the trip possible.

We stayed at the Inn by the Harbor and we were so impressed that we really can’t imagine ever staying at another hotel again. I won’t spend too much time talking about the hotel, but if you are looking for an amazing hotel in Santa Barbara you can read my yelp review here.

When we first got to the hotel Lila fell right asleep on the bed and ended up taking a 4 hour nap. Jake and I couldn’t leave the room and were happy she was getting rest so we rented a movie from the hotel library and were able to watch a movie together which was so nice to do midday. When Lila woke up the hotel lobby was serving fresh baked cookies and milk so we enjoyed those before heading out for the evening. It was almost 7 o’clock when Lila woke up so we arrived to State St right at sunset. We decided on Arigato Sushi for dinner because it was one of my oldest Yelp bookmarks and I have always wanted to try it. We tried a wide variety of sushi and rolls, and everything was delicious. We ordered Lila chicken skewers and they were so yummy I ordered a second plate just for myself. After dinner we walked up and down State St and stopped by Starbucks for frappacinos before heading back to the hotel. When we got to our room we got changed and headed straight to the pool. The pool water was really warm and Jake and Lila splashed while I got to sit in the jacuzzi and watch them play.

The next morning we woke up and went to The French Press for coffee and then headed to Chase Palm Park’s Shipwreck Playground. This was one of the cutest playgrounds I have ever been to and it even had an ocean view! I seriously did not want to leave.

At noon we went on a Land and Sea Shark Tour and it was so much fun. I was excited to see Lila’s reactions when on the tour, but she fell asleep before the tour even started and slept through the whole thing. After the tour we ended up going to lunch at Silvergreens, after the restaurant we originally went to eat didn’t have highchairs. (boooo!) After lunch we found the cutest baby boutique and Lila got to play around the store. After shopping we stopped by the Santa Barbara Museum of Art but most of the museum was closed for renovations, so it was a short hour of looking at a few pieces and playing ‘what colors do you see’ with Lila.

After the museum we went to Alameda Park by recommendation from the museum and it was so fun! Jake actually has a photo of him and all of his cousins when they were young at this park so he had fun showing Lila all the cool places of the playground he remembered.

It was approaching dinnertime and neither Jake or I were hungry but we knew we had to have one last meal while here. We decided on Corazon Cocina inside the Santa Barbara Public Market and I am so glad we did because it was soooo good. Just thinking about it right now I wish we were back there. For dessert we actually got 3 things! From Enjoy Cupcakes: chocolate chip cookie sandwich with buttercream filling; From Joe’s Cafe: a slice of chocolate cake; & From McConnell’s Fine Ice Creams a two scoop of chocolate and strawberry. We walked up and down State St until around 9pm and then hopped in the car to head home. Lila fell asleep on the car ride home and I got to catch up on all the emails I didn’t check for 48 hours. Sometimes it’s nice to just get away for a second to recharge, and I think we are going to start doing more “quick trips” because this trip was just way too much fun.
