A Love Like No Other // Choosing To Potty Train “Late”

YES. My almost three year old is still wearing diapers. I haven’t tried to potty train her yet and the main reason being that diapers are just so easy. Once she pees, I change her, and that’s it. No matter where we are or what we are doing she can use the bathroom freely and it adds a lot of flexibility to our life. We drive a lot and something I am definitely not ready to hear is, “I have to pee” from the backseat while in traffic.

I know that potty training is right around the corner, and I’m gonna be driving around that corner reeeeeeally slow. Right now this is what is best for us, and it’s something that everyone ends up knowing how to do! If potty training late means less accidents and a quicker transition that I am all for it. My main concerns are her being as comfortable as possible and making sure I take big steps at her pace. I’m hoping to look back and know I made the best choices I knew how for both our sake.

And We’re Off… To Bed!

By on August 25, 2017

Pajamas // Towel // Blanket // Washcloth // Cream // Powder // Diapers

Hi Everyone!

Have you noticed the days have been getting shorter? I sure have. Lila goes to sleep when the sun does, regardless of what the clock says and this we she has been turning in on the early side. Naps are a thing of the past, so to wind down the day it’s off to bath time right after dinner.

We have a new bath time routine which I will share next, and so far it’s been working out great. When bath time is over I scoop her out of the bath and get right into the bedroom. While she is still in her towel (which by the way this one is adorable and amazing) I start a movie on the tv. It’s almost always Moana, or if we are speeding things up it’s just one episode of Veggie Tales. While the movie starts I’ll give her a massage with my favorite cream, powder up the diaper area, diaper her up, and slip on her jammies. When her jammies are on I’ll brush her teeth which lately has turned into her trying to bite me, but I always win and get those teeth brushed. Last step is “lips” which Lila loves to put on and will ask for it as soon as her shirt goes over her head.

While she gets the wiggles out and jumps around like a monkey, always singing along with Moana I will tidy up the floor a bit and hang up het towel. Then I’ll get in bed with her, put her in the dock a tot with 2 blankets and nurse her until she falls asleep. We definitely have our bedtime routine down which I wanted to create ever since she stopped napping.

So that’s us! Now tell me what do you do to get that baby to bed? Till next time.

If You Need Me, I’ll Be In My Teepee

By on February 8, 2017

Teepee & Cushion // Wall Print // Grid Blanket //Swan Coverlet // Diapers

Hi everyone!

So you are probably wondering why there is a giant teepee in my living room… Well for Lila’s birthday she got this adorable teepee from our friends at The Land of Nod. I set it up the when she went to sleep on her birthday eve so when she woke up in the morning she could see to and be surprised. I grabbed a few things that were in her room that I love like her pink buggy, a knit cactus pillow, Splash the cat, and her swan coverlet. She was so happy when she woke up and she went straight inside of it and said, “My teepee!” I thought it was so cute that not only did she know it was hers, but also that it was called a teepee!

It was pretty difficult getting her out of the house after that, but we managed to load her in the car and we had her presents waiting for her in the backseat so she could open them on the car ride to the aquarium. Her birthday was such a great day filled with family and her closest friends. I think it was one of the happiest days of her life, which is exactly what I wanted it to be. I thought about doing a big party but I knew if I did I would be too busy party planning and not be spending enough time being present. I think next year or the year after we will do a big fun party and have it be not on her actual birthday.

Since I set the teepee up in the living room I actually really like it. It’s so pretty and cheerful and lights up the room! It was suppose to go in her playroom, but I think I am going to wait a while before it makes it there.

Since I decided to leave the teepee in this room for now I wanted to tie the room together with a fun wall print. I found this one from an online children’s boutique called Peach Stream. If you haven’t heard of them before you have to check out their website because they have the cutest selection of some of the best brands around. While I was shopping, I found this blanket from one of my favorite blanket brands. I have a few of their muslin blankets for Lila and love them so I knew this blanket would be a winner too. It is pretty in big size and also reversible. I think it’s perfect because even though it is a kid’s brand it is also a pattern that I love so it makes for a perfect family blanket.

I hope you like the latest changes to our living space. My sister recently got Lila got the cutest table and chairs set, so I will be sharing that next. (One of the chairs is shown in photos above.)

Thanks for reading!

A Balancing Act

By on November 1, 2016

Since I was pregnant I have been working from home and something that I was always worried about was how I was going to juggle being a mother and working simultaneously. Soon after we came from home from the hospital and we had a chance to settle in, I turned on the computer and immediately felt completely overwhelmed. How was I suppose to answer an inbox full of emails while one hand was supporting my little one’s head? As hard as that first week was, I just kept telling myself it was going to get easier.

The truth is that to this day when I feel like I am totally present and patient with my little one, I look over and see a to do list on my desk that is so long that it basically touches the floor. And when my to do list looks small and under control, my little one has herself wrapped around my legs whining for mama. In the past 21 months I think maybe once did I look at my to do list and see everything checked off and then look over and see my little bundle of joy sleeping soundly. Oh yeah and that happened in my dreams.

What I am always striving for is some sort of balance. One thing that has always kept me more or less in check is a Reminder on my phone every 90 minutes. When the Reminder goes off, I then set a timer for 15 minutes and try to get as much done in that time.

Then once I get her to sleep for a nap and for the night I catch up on everything I missed from the day including picking up snacks from every square inch of the house and washing the dishes and all that other fun stuff.

A huge variable in my awesome plan on how to conquer the day is that I can’t exactly tell my little squish that it’s mommy’s 15 minutes and that she needs to go play. What usually happens is 2 minutes into my session she starts freaking out that I am not using a Minnie Mouse voice making Minnie dance in the air and the master plan is ruined.

At the end of the day, even if it a was fail the most wonderful thing in the world is hearing her little voice chirp, “Mama a hug? Mama a kiss?” and everything else just melts away. On days where I am particularly absorbed in work I like to explain that to her at the end of the day, “Mommy was very busy today and we are going to do something fun tomorrow.” And then the next day I try my best to follow through and we will go get ice cream or go the park and then I’ll remind her, “Remember when mommy was busy yesterday? Well now mommy can play without any distractions.”

I know that right now she probably doesn’t fully understand what that means, but I hope that by repeating these words and actions with her that when she’s a little bit older I can tell her, “Mommy needs 15 minutes and then after we can go do something fun.” and that she will know that I follow through and give me the full 15 minutes to get some work done.

Tomorrow will be always a new day, and if the day before was a fail I think trying make it up the next day merits a bit of forgiveness.

A Big Tip For Easier Diaper Changes

By on October 14, 2016

We never had a terrible time with diaper changes, although some required much more effort on my part to supply distractions. I noticed the times where my daughter was playing and I would pick her up to get her diaper changed she was resistant. I finally decided to come to her when it was time for a diaper change.

I’m pretty big into Slow Parenting and also like to create as little rules as possible that aren’t safety related. A minor issue we were facing was diaper changing becoming more and more taxing. When I heard about the Ubbi Diaper Storage Caddy I checked it out and was amazed by how well received the product was from the reviews.

I decided to give it a try and I was amazed at the instant improvement it made. The ease of picking up the diaper caddy and taking it to my daughter wherever she may be when it’s time for a diaper change leaves her much less frustrated. I simply lay her down instead of transporting her and it makes all the difference.

The caddy itself comes with a soft, easy-to-clean changing mat and a slot to store it in. That way wherever you take the caddy there’s a mat to lay your babe down on. The Ubbi Wipes Dispenser has a convenient window to check when wipes are getting low, which I really love. There’s also a drawer where I store a diaper cream and a small toy in case she still needs a minor distraction.

The ever changing location of the diaper change leaves my little one completely unfazed and sometimes she doesn’t even notice. If your little is having trouble with diaper changes,  maybe they just need a traveling location.

The Very Best Diaper For My Baby || Bambo Nature

By on August 6, 2016

I guess you could say that when we finally tried Bambo Nature diapers it was comparable to the excitement and joy of an exploding confetti bomb. Until we found Bambo Nature we tried literally every brand of diapers in the Target diaper isle. I never was super happy with any of the brands, but did like some brands more than others. When Lila was a few months old we went on a road trip to Utah and I noticed on our trip back home that she had developed a diaper rash. This was common for her, so I kept an eye on it but it never seemed get better even with all of my tips and tricks that I used to get rid of them quickly.

During this time I tried to keep her out of a diaper as much as I could and we tried out a few new brands of more natural diapers. I began to research what the difference between diaper brands was and what I thought would be best for my baby. If you think about it your baby is in a diaper MOST of the time. It really opened my eyes and began my search to find a brand that I felt safe with for my baby.

When I first opened a pack of Bambo Nature diapers I immediately felt like my quest was over. We have been using them for quite some time now and I notice that since we made the switch my baby has gotten almost no diaper rashes, which is amazing! I also notice she seems not ask to be changed as often. She usually would go and get a diaper and come hand it to me when she wanted to be changed, which was often, but now she rarely does it all.

These are one of the softest diapers I have ever touched and they are really gentle on your baby. You can feel the quality of the product right when you touch it. For 25 years Bambo Nature has been certified safe and eco friendly. To give you complete peace of mind, their diapers contain no known substances that are harmful to your health or the environment. Each size is made to fit your baby perfectly and has a thin design allowing your baby total freedom.

These are hands down my #1 Must Have with Baby.
